Puppy Problems? No Problem! A Survival Guide for Finding Training Your New Dog Brenda Aloff 9781617810510 Books
I have some of Brenda's other books, purchased when I adopted an older, fear aggressive, shelter dog some years ago. I highly recommend her books. Brenda has a very good understanding of dogs and how to communicate with them. This book is one of the best I've read for dog owners. I bought it when I brought home a 3 month old puppy. Gave me all I was hoping for, an understanding of puppy developmental stages, how to raise a healthy pup and avoid the errors we humans often make with dogs. The training methods she offers are great, way beyond the usual 'sit, stay, down!' The included dvd has some really helpful techniques and exercises for raising a well balanced and well adjusted dog, that will be comfortable with people and differing situations. Yes, it's a lot to read, but you don't have to read it all at once. The book has larger type and is well organized and easy to understand. Even though my pup is now almost a year old, I find myself going back to this book over and over. I gave this book to friends who have a new puppy and they found it it very helpful. I also gave this book to another friend who has a 7 year dog they were having problems with, and they also found it extremely helpful, especially the exercises on the dvd.
One reviewer commented the book was expensive, and yes, you can buy cheaper books on training, which I have many of. The reason I'm writing this review, is that those books did not have the depth of information that Brenda covers and left me with many questions. This book is not only about training, but about understanding your dog as well. The dvd alone included with the book is well worth the money spent. Thanks to Brenda's knowledge and techniques, my dog and I have a great relationship. I also highly recommend her book 'Get Connected'.

Puppy Problems? No Problem! A Survival Guide for Finding Training Your New Dog Brenda Aloff 9781617810510 Books Reviews
I teach puppy classes and this book had some good ideas I am incorporating into our classes. Sit restraint and impulse control are explained in a step by step manner easily understood.
My only problem is the length and cost of book. Both too much. I love the detail but don't think pet owners will read it all. Great book for "dog trainers".
DVD is great for illustrating her techniques. I give it five stars for detail of explanations.
huge problem with the book - - it is so good i have a horrible time putting it down. love brenda's work.
This has everything you need to know to start your puppy or new dog the right way. The combination of the text with the accompanying DVD is a system that beats one-on-one with a live trainer. I haven't met a trainer yet that you can rewind...or onw that will let you meditate on a task until it sinks in. Once you have used it to create the perfect dog, you will find it a useful resource for specific things your friends will ask you about when they see what you and your dog can do.
EXCELLENT book to help you get ready for your puppy and has really helped us with our one year old rescue. Practical and easy to understand! Highly recommend!
The detail in this book and the accompanying dvd was fantastic. The focus of most of the exercises is on teaching the puppy to focus on the owner and on helping the puppy learn how to relax, accept handling, and calm down in the face of stimulating situations. I've loved it!
Brenda Aloff is THE BEST. Read this book, watch the DVD that comes with it, then rinse, lather, and repeat. Start smart with your pup! Don't reach for Cesar Milan. His all-dominance-all-the-time technique is a made-for-TV entertainment stunt that can backfire.
I am familiar with Brenda's books and they have always been thee resource for me. She is responsible for training me and my dog to communicate better. Yes there is much to read but like other readers, I will go back and read it, watch the dvd, practice it and it works. She is simply the best out there. We lost our old dog a several months ago and decided it was time for a new dog. I was delighted that she has produced a book about puppies. It has been 13 years since we had a puppy in the house and we needed refreshers for sure. I am not a dog trainer but love dogs, and always had them growing up but Brenda has really taught me a lot.....especially for with those smooth fox terriers.....plus she's just funny too.
